Marbella is “an example of positive change”

Transparency International, the global anti-corruption coalition, have increased the rating for Marbella City Council from 58 to 93 percent in the Transparency Index.

The report, published every two years, says Marbella is “an example of positive change, good practice and attitude”.

The Mayor expressed his satisfaction with the towns progress towards transparency of all local institutions and thanked all departments for their involvement in achieving this outstanding recognition.

Miguel Diaz, Councillor for Citizen Participation, stressed that this report supports the commitment of the government to install “glass walls” in the city and to “banish the obscurantist practices of the previous government”.

Diaz also referred to measures such as the implementation of the Open Government portal, and the publication of service letters with which the local councillors aspire to change the model of public administration.

In this sense, it is also worth mentioning the information regarding minor contracts or the positions of trust within the government which are published on the municipal website.

Transparency International is a worldwide non-governmental organization dedicated to combating corruption, bringing together civil society, the private sector and governments in a broad global coalition. Since 2008 this organization has developed a Transparency Index of the City Councils (ITA) to measure the level of transparency within national and local authorities in over 100 countries.
