The splendor of Puerto Banus

The splendour of Puerto Banus

Summer is on the way and with it, the tourists. But where will they all go? What is there to do here? Well, the choice is mind-blowing! I couldn’t possibly tell you about every club, restaurant, boat trip, concert etc. There is simply too much to do here on the Costa del Sol.

I will however, tell you about a few of my favorites, including one brand new experience which opens this month.

If you’re going to visit Marbella you are likely to hit Puerto Banus at some point. You may visit for the shopping (Banus has all the top brands including Boss, Jimmy Choo and Gucci), or for the dining (some of the best Costa del Sol gastronomy is found in Puerto Banus). For many, the calling is for the nightlife.

Front-line in Puerto Banus consists of three main industries: retail, dining and partying. But step away from the frontline of the marina and there is plenty more for you to enjoy.

Eat – La Sala

Just over the road on the hill up towards Nueva Andalucía you will find La Sala. This is a great restaurant offering a variety of foods for you to enjoy. You can go for the al-fresco experience enjoying their chefs works on their expansive decked terrace, or there is plenty of space inside including bar-side tables to put you at the heart of the action.

Of an evening, La Sala is a magnet for tourists and locals alike. A meeting point for many and a full night experience for others. The menu is extensive and the prices are ok, for Puerto Banus. Give it a try. You will not be dissapointed.

Drink – Ocean Club

I’m sure you’ve heard of it. Eat, drink, swim, party! It’s all there. Also in Puerto Banus, the Ocean Club is a popular spot for tourists both day and night. The restaurant is partly covered and partly al fresco and offers you the chance to enjoy fine dining while overlooking the blue of the Mediterranean.

There is a pool on site for cooling off from the afternoon heat surrounded by sun loungers (which must be pre-booked). The Ocean Club is also famous for its Champagne Parties where as much alcohol gets sprayed in the air as gets drunk. Great fun and definitely something you should try, at least once!

Dance – Teatro Marbella

Eat, drink and take in a show

Eat, drink and take in a show

A new experience opening this week is Teatro Marbella. You will find it across the road from Puerto Banus in the commercial centre beside La Alzambra. Be ready for a completely new concept in Puerto Banus. A restaurant, nightclub and live show all in one luxurious location and comparable to a night out in Las Vegas.

Artistic director Fidel Buika had an idea to combine top rate music and performance with first-class gastronomy creating a multi-sensory experience for the all who visit. You can eat on the open-air terrace or in the theatre while enjoying the sights and sounds of a live performance before taking to the club to dance the night away. Singing, dancing, music and great food. What more could you want from a night out in Puerto Banus?

Finally, I couldn’t write this without mentioning Starlite – Marbella’s own music festival which features some of the best in music from around the world. This years confirmed acts include Elton John, The Pretenders, Andrea Bocelli, Art Garfunkel, and many more. The shows are put on throughout July and August and are a must for music fans! Full details can be found here: starlitemarbella.com.

If you’re like me and you need a day to recover from a night out, the above should cover the first week of your stay. The younger, or more determined, or dare I say foolhardy, may need more but they won’t struggle. Puerto Banus and Marbella put a lot of effort into entertaining you and every accommodation is provided for. Enjoy your stay!
