Property Sales Increased in November

Home sales increased 17.3%

The total number of property sales in Spain increased by 6,8% in November.

The number of home purchases increased by 17.3%, when compared to November 2015, according to the latest data from the INE.

84.6% of purchases correspond to urban properties, with 15.4% being rustic. In the case of urban sales, 56.3% were for the sale of homes.

The number of rural property sales increased by 5.1% in November on the annual rate. Regarding urban sales, the increase is 17.7%. Within urban sales, the number of house purchases increased by 17.3%.

The monthly rate (between October and November) was 15.1%, which is 10.6 points more than in the previous year.

Autonomous Communities

In November, the total number of properties transferred in the property register, per 100,000 inhabitants, reached its highest level in Aragon with 628. In Castilla y Leon, it was 604, while in La Rioja it was 577.

The highest rates of change were seen in Cantabria (+41.8%), the Canary Islands (+25.7%) and the Community of Madrid (+17.7%). In Andalucia, the annual increase was 6.5%.

At the other end of the scale the biggest declines were seen in Comunidad Foral de Navarra (-21.0%), Galicia (-9.4%) and Extremadura (-7.1%).

In view of the number of sales of registered houses, the communities with the highest number of sales per 100,000 inhabitants were the Balearic Islands (138), the Community of Valencia (133). Andalusia and the Canary Islands both registered 99 sales per 100,000 inhabitants.

When looking only at the sale of housing the largest annual growth was seen in the Balearic Islands with an increase of 32.8%. Following was the Canary Islands (+26.3%), and Aragon (+25.8%). In Andalucia the annual increase in housing sales was 13.2%.

La Rioja (+0.4%), Basque Country (+4.3%) and Galicia (+6.8%) sa the smallest increases in house sales. On a positive note, none of the country’s autonomous communities registered an annual decrease in the number of house sales.
