Passenger Numbers Increase at Málaga Airport

Málaga Airport has dealt with over 15 million passenger this year

Over 15 million passenger so far this year

November was another busy month for Málaga Airport with almost a million passengers passing through, proving that the allure of the Costa del Sol is more than just sunny weather.

Despite being outside of the blistering summer months, and pre-Christmas season, November saw Málaga-Costa del Sol airport handling 965,188 passengers. They were distributed across 7,823 flight operations. This represented a 20.7% increase in passenger numbers and a 19.5% increase in flight operations, when compared to November 2015, according to data released by the Spanish airport network, AENA.

The bulk of passengers (961,795) moved on commercial flights. Of these, the majority (795,171) were travelling on international flights, a 20.4% increase over the same month last year. The increase in foreign passengers also led to a 20.7% increase in the number of international flight operations.

The remaining passengers were travelling on domestic flights, representing an increase in passenger numbers of 21.9%, and an increase in flights of 8.6%.

The United Kingdom remained at the top as the main source of traffic passing through Málaga with 275,295 passengers, 16% more than last November. Those travelling to and/or from Germany amounted to 71,872 passengers, followed by the Netherlands with 58,928. It seems the Brexit result and the hectic value of the pound are not enough to keep the Brits away from our beautiful coast!

November 5th, the first Saturday of the month, was the busiest day for the airport. Airport staff handled 332 landings and take-offs, carrying 44,403 travellers.

Over 15 Million Passengers

The cumulative figure for the year so far has reached a staggering 15,760,207 passengers travelling through Málaga airport. This is more than one million more than was recorded over the same period last year. During the same period, the airport has handled over 116,000 flights.

These figures represent increases over the previous year of 15.5% for passenger numbers and 13.1% for flights handled.
