Home sales increased 18.1% in November

There were 153,390 property transfers recorded in the property registers in November 2017. This represents a 4.9% increase when compared to the same month in 2016 , according to the latest figures from the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

85.4% of the purchases correspond to urban property, with the remaining 14.6% being for rural properties. Within urban properties, 58.5% were for home purchases. The number of rustic properties sold increased by 5.9% in November, on the annual rate. Urban property sales increased by 13.6%. Within urban property sales, purchases of homes recorded an annual increase of 18.1%.

18.4% of homes purchased in November were new properties with the remaining 81.6% being second-hand. The number of sales on new homes represents an annual increase of 29.8%. Additionally, the increase for used properties was 15.8%, when compared to November 2016

Sales by Autonomous Community

In November, the total number of transferred properties registered in the property registers per 100,000 inhabitants reached its highest value in Castilla y León (669). Following were Aragón (634) and La Rioja (607).

Galicia (14.9%), Navarra (14.2%) and the Balearic Islands (13.0%) registered the highest annual variation rates.

Meanwhile, Cantabria (-25.2%), Región de Murcia (-9.6%) and Canarias (-3.6%) registered the lowest annual rates.

Looking at sales of registered homes, the community with the highest number of transactions per 100,000 inhabitants was Valencia (163). Following were the Balearic Islands (138) and Andalusia (128).

The communities with the largest annual increases in the number of home sales in November are Aragón (24.7%), Andalusia (24.3%) and Castilla-La Mancha (23.7%).

On the other hand, Extremadura (-9.7%), the Basque Country (-1.3%) and Asturias (3.5%) registered the lowest annual variation rates in November.
