Benahavís becomes richest town in Málaga

Rincon de La Victoria is no longer the richest town in the province of Málaga. The title has been snatched by Benahavís, a small hillside town just outside Marbella, which includes the exclusive developments of La Zagaleta and El Madroñal.

Benahavís has increased its average gross revenue by 10% in just one year, to reach 28,428 euros per inhabitant. Thus, it becomes the seventh richest town in Andalucía. At the national level it is the 172nd richest town in Spain.

The figures were revealed by the ‘Statistics of the IRPF Declarations for Municipalities’ for 2015, from the AEAT. The report now places Rincon de La Victoria in second place in the provincial ranking with an average gross income per inhabitant of 27,003 euros.

Málaga is placed third with an average income per inhabitant of 24,463 euros. Marbella comes in fourth (24,182 euros) pushing Alhaurín de la Torre (24,066 euros) into fifth place. Incidentally, the report only includes municipalities with more than 1,000 inhabitants.

Average Income

The average income in the province of Málaga is 22,175, which represents a year-on-year increase of 3.2%. In Andalucía, Málaga comes third behind Sevilla (23,267) and Cadiz (22,455).

The average gross income in the community of Andalucía is 21,392, the second lowest in the country after Extremadura.

The Richest in Spain

At the national level, the municipalities of Pozuelo de Alarcón, Boadilla del Monte, Majadahonda and Las Rozas, and Barcelona, Sant Fruitós de Bages and Matadepera, are the ones with the highest gross income, according to data published by the Tax Agency.

Pozuelo de Alarcón retained first position having increased its average gross income to 69,136 euros, compared to 61,643 the previous year. In second place was the Barcelona town of Sant Fruitós de Bages, of 8,387 inhabitants, which the previous year did not figure among the top 20, yet in 2015 reaches an average gross income of 67,806 euros. Next is Boadilla del Monte, with 52,770 euros. They are followed by Majadahonda (Madrid), Matadepera (Barcelona), Las Rozas (Madrid), Sant Just Desvern (Barcelona), Sant Cugát del Vallès (Barcelona), Alcobendas (Madrid) and Torrelodones (Madrid).

The data shows the average gross income of the 18.89 million personal income taxpayers in 2015 reached 25,582€ per year. This is 3.1% more than in 2014, while gross disposable income is up to 21,106 euros, an increase of 4.3%.
